America owes quite a debt of gratitude to France for the support of our young republic. If 6000 of their troops hadn't marched from Rhode Island to New York and perhaps, convince Gen. Washington, to fight with them in Virginia against Gen. Cornwallis (instead of Admiral Cornwallis in NYC) we may have lost our cause, a declaration first signed in New York by William Floyd, on Long Island, where we also lost the first battle.
