Comment: Five myths of 9/11 – The Washington Post

In the days after 9/11 and the presence of anthrax in the US Mail, the foreign press reported the US (we) were going into Afghanistan to "clean up the airports" after the USSR left its material there in retreat. I was working on the clearance archaeology of the West Point Military Academy, where Tropical Storm Floyd had toppled many trees along old roads around Bull Hill and elsewhere. How the war in Afghanistan has become a 10+ year operation has not been made clear from the facts of that week of the 9/11 attacks, and a part of the myth, complicated by the invasion of Iraq, Complicating it further, in the Iraq/Iran war, Iran had been a former ally under the Shah. In the 1970s, 80 F-14s were sold to them. 9/3/2011 3:18:22 PM EDT
