Talking about Lunar Pioneer: NASA lost its way

I was not sure where to ask this. I know the LEMs, as we called them on Long Island, NY (lunar excursion modules) where they were assembled, built in many machine shops, by the Grumman Corporation (reason: no-one had the "big picture") were crashed for seismic research. Was the first LEM the "Eagle"? And if so, is it known where? If not, happy hunting.  Lunar Pioneer: NASA lost its way
