Castelli, supporters rally to keep John Jay homestead open | LoHud.com | The Journal News

It'd be a shame to close the John Jay homestead, last time I was there the many other structures on site, with more modern history, needed work. Also with the opening of Governors Island, NYC, offered by former President William Clinton for $1, Hillary Clinton the Sec. of State, both nearby Chappaqua residents, there is the Fort Jay connection on Governors Island. The fort was built by former Kings College students (today's Columbia U. where former President Eisenhower was its president) in appreciation it's been stated, of the "Jay Treaty" later Chief Justice Jay had negotiated, ending the Revolutionary War. I worked on the geoarchaeology of it for a short time in the interim period of occupation. A Coastguardsman groundskeeper told me Walt Disney, missing the boat there was once held AWOL in Fort Williams (next to Fort Jay) its crossfire partner Castle Clinton on Manhattan island. It's also where then President Reagan last met Premier Mikhail Gorbachev. Please keep it open.
