News from around the world - Los Angeles Times
News from around the world - Los Angeles Times: "Historic New York
New York City has opened a Heritage Tourism Center at Broadway and Barclay Street in Lower Manhattan to help visitors learn more about historic attractions downtown and elsewhere in the city. In addition, a new promotion from CityPass and the History Channel hopes to encourage visitors to the Big Apple to take a look at these and other historic attractions."
The day before 9/11/01, a French para-sailer got stuck in the Statue of Liberty, who "New York's Finest" disentangled from the torch, and the History Channel (or Discovery?) had a replica of the first submarine "The Turtle" in Castle Clinton at the foot of Manhattan. It was a large barrel with propulsion and attempted to attach a charge to a British warship in NYC's harbor back during the War for Independence. A much finer replica was to follow.
